Satori’s Holistic Approach to Addiction Recovery
At Satori it’s our belief that addiction recovery requires a holistic approach that addresses the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of an individual’s well-being. Our comprehensive overview to treatment explores several key components:
Individual Counselling:
Individual counselling establishes a healing relationship between therapists and clients, creating a safe space for addressing underlying psychological issues. The privacy and confidentiality of one-on-one sessions allow individuals to explore their emotions and develop personalized problem resolution strategies. Collaborative work between therapists and clients promotes self-discovery and long-term healing.
Group Counselling:
Skilled therapists facilitate group counselling sessions, providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals to share their experiences. Our group setting encourages individuals to feel understood and accepted, fostering a sense of belonging. This gentle approach offers various benefits, including the development of coping tools, building meaningful relationships, increasing self-awareness, and the opportunity to help others.

Nutrition
You are correct that detoxing is a normal process in the body to eliminate toxins. However, when it comes to detoxing from drugs and alcohol, having a healthy diet is important to support the body’s natural detoxification processes and aid in recovery.
Chronic heavy drinking or drug use can lead to nutritional deficiencies, as these substances can suppress appetite and disrupt nutrient absorption. By eating the right foods, you can replenish these nutrients and alleviate withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, anxiety, and headaches. Having adequate nutrition during recovery has also been shown to reduce cravings and increase the chances of long-term abstinence.
Alcohol addiction can affect the breakdown and absorption of nutrients, leading to deficiencies in vitamins A, B, C, D, and E, as well as calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc. Replenishing these deficiencies through a balanced diet can help manage alcohol withdrawal symptoms and improve the chances of successful recovery.
Opioid addiction can slow down digestion, resulting in gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation, heartburn, and bloating. This can lead to deficiencies in vitamin C, B3, folate, potassium, selenium, zinc, and magnesium. Eating a diet rich in protein, fibre, and probiotics can aid in restoring a healthy gut and alleviating opioid withdrawal symptoms.
Stimulant addiction can suppress appetite and disrupt sleep, leading to weight loss, malnutrition, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalances. Gradually increasing food intake and staying hydrated are important during stimulant detoxification.
While certain foods can support detoxification and recovery, there are also foods to avoid. Overindulging in sugar, caffeine, and processed foods can trigger anxiety, cravings, and potentially increase the chances of relapse.
Excess sugar can cause cravings and chemical imbalances. It can also become a replacement addiction. Instead of excessive sugar, it is recommended to consume fresh and dried fruits that provide nutrients and fibre.
Excess caffeine can overstimulate the central nervous system and cause anxiety, headaches, and irritability. It is best to limit caffeine intake to no more than two cups of coffee per day or consider decaf coffee or herbal tea as alternatives.
Highly processed foods are typically low in nutrition and often contain inflammatory ingredients. Opting for clean, nutrient-dense foods can help replenish nutrients, reduce liver workload, and promote faster healing.
Overall, maintaining a healthy diet during detox and recovery plays a critical role in supporting the body’s natural detoxification processes, replenishing nutrient deficiencies, and improving the chances of successful recovery.
